Client Aftercare Instructions

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your new tattoo heals correctly and maintains its quality. Please follow these instructions carefully. If you have any questions, contact your tattoo artist.

Healing times may vary from person to person. The first few weeks are the most critical in the healing process.

If you experience excessive swelling, redness, yellow or green discharge, fever, or any other concerning symptoms, please consult a medical professional immediately.

Immediately After Your Appointment

  • Once your session is complete, your artist will apply a bandage. Leave the bandage on for a minimum of 2 hours and no longer than 10 hours. This protects your tattoo from airborne bacteria and contaminants.

  • Before removing the bandage, wash your hands thoroughly to prevent contamination.

Cleaning Your Tattoo

  • Treat your new tattoo as you would an open wound.

  • After removing the bandage, gently wash the tattoo with unscented antibacterial soap and lukewarm water.

  • Your tattoo may feel slightly slimy at first due to blood plasma. Wash gently until it no longer feels slick.

  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not rub.

Moisturizing

  • Once the tattoo is completely dry, apply a thin layer of mild, unscented lotion or a lotion specifically formulated for tattoos.

  • Avoid ointments or petroleum-based products (such as A&D or Aquaphor), as they may hinder healing and cause excessive scabbing.

  • Rub lotion in gently until fully absorbed. Do not over-apply.

Daily Care

  • Repeat the washing and moisturizing process 3–6 times daily, especially if exposed to dirt or contaminants.

  • It is not necessary to re-bandage your tattoo.

  • Avoid activities that may expose your tattoo to bacteria or irritation.

A properly healed tattoo should eventually feel like normal skin, without redness, tenderness, heavy scabbing, or peeling.

What to Expect During Healing

  • Peeling may begin after the first few days. Minor scabbing can occur.

  • Excessive or thick scabbing may indicate improper aftercare.

  • Itching is normal. Keeping the area properly moisturized will help reduce discomfort.

Avoid the Following During Healing

  • Do not swim or submerge your tattoo in water (no pools, lakes, baths, or hot tubs).

  • Showering is acceptable, but avoid using any soap other than unscented antibacterial soap on the tattoo.

  • Do not use hydrogen peroxide.

  • Do not scratch, rub, or pick at your tattoo.

  • Avoid heavy sweating or strenuous activity for the first 2–3 days.

  • Do not participate in activities that may put your tattoo at risk of infection.

Following these aftercare instructions will help ensure your tattoo heals properly and looks its best for years to come.
